What should a plumbing estimate include?

A useful plumbing estimate identifies the job, describes the included work, states the amount and currency, explains tax notes and exclusions, and gives the customer a clear approval step. A published callout or hourly rate is a starting point; it does not describe every part or condition of an individual repair.

Start with the provider’s own rates

The workflow supports provider-defined callout and hourly rates in CAD. A provider chooses whether to publish starting rates and whether Flor may use them to explain preliminary costs. The project does not invent a standard national price or replace the provider’s judgment about the actual work.

Write a scope the customer can review

  • Identify the fixture, issue and proposed work.
  • Explain labour, materials and exclusions in plain language.
  • State the total, currency, tax notes and any assumptions that need an on-site assessment.
  • Include the proposed arrival indication and estimate validity.

Make approval an explicit step

The customer can accept the current estimate or skip it before booking. The demonstrated workflow rejects an expired estimate or a late response, so old terms cannot be accepted accidentally. An estimate expires after ten minutes in the current workflow. This is separate from the provider’s three-minute offer response window.

Keep quoting separate from charging

The demo does not take a payment, send an invoice or charge a card. Payment processing, accounting sync and automated tax calculation are not generally available features. Discuss your invoicing and accounting requirements before planning to replace an existing system.

Check the estimate handoff before choosing software

Use the same fictional job in each software demonstration. Ask the office and the customer to explain what happens in each case, then record the evidence instead of marking a feature present from a sales description.

Four estimate scenarios to review with your team
Try this scenarioWhat to verify
Starting rate onlyCallout and hourly rates use CAD; the customer can distinguish a starting rate from the total for assessed work.
Estimate still unacceptedScope, exclusions, final amount and validity remain visible. A request is not shown as booked before the customer decides.
Expired or revised estimateAsk how an old offer is prevented from being accepted and how a changed scope gets a fresh decision. Keep the earlier version identifiable.
Approved work handed to the teamThe work record points to the accepted estimate and its responsible provider; job completion is kept separate from payment status.

Prepare the sample with the free estimate worksheet, then compare its handoff with the work-order worksheet. Both can be printed or exported without entering customer information or requesting access. A worksheet describes your requirements; it does not prove a feature is available.

Prepare one sample estimate for onboarding

Use a fictional Vancouver, BC job rather than a real customer’s personal details. Show what would be included and excluded, then ask your team to explain the customer’s next step. Use the plumbing estimate checklist for a reusable structure, or see where estimates fit into dispatch.

Flor Plumbing is in early access. The public demo is available today; live onboarding and feature availability are confirmed individually. Review the release status before planning a switch.
